Fort St. John, BC

Pilot Square is a mixed-use commercial and residential development in Fort St. John, British Columbia. The project presented a challenge is using building systems that would require minimum labour due to the remote location lacking many skilled labourers. Pre-engineered load bearing steel studs and steel superstructure is proposed that can be prefabricated off site and erected with minimal labour. Coloured panels and balconies are used to articulate the building elevations and provide some outdoor areas for the residents. Buildings are located on the street edge to maintain the existing urban fabric and provide pedestrian scale in the downtown urban location. Street edge planters with built in seating offer a stimulating experience for people walking around the site.
